Great public success for the event “The stone prisons” organized thanks to the patronage of the Sicily Regional Guide Association. A journey through time, a tour to discover the history of the wonderful monuments kept within the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, a path that has broken through the hearts of the many Syracusans who have participated in it.
The idea was born by chance, thanks to the readings and insights that have kept me company in this last difficult period, in which all of us have found ourselves having to reinvent ourselves, find new ideas and think about a rebirth.“The stone prisons”, the ancient quarries of Paradise, have been gloomy, dark places for millennia, have hosted prisoners of war and illustrious personalities, attracted the attention of ancient travelers and particularly impressed Caravaggio, who, in his condition of sought–after saw in the quarries the reflection of his condition: that cave–prison, the famous Ear of Dionysus which he renamed, was the metaphorical representationof his state of mind, continually distressed by the thought of being guarded and being captured by the knights chasing him.Readings of excerpts from literary sources, food for thought, historical–archaeological information, an original and emotional guided tour will be offered to our visitors always eager to discover the secrets hidden among the sacred stones of ancient Neapolis.
The guided tours, organized by Dr. Serena Intagliata, licensed tour guide of the Sicily Region, will continue for the following dates 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19, 23 August at 9 pm.
