For the second consecutive year, due to the pandemic, the students had to give up their usual end-of-year school trip. The stringent measures forced schools to stop at the much desired end-of-year outings, during which students had the opportunity to visit new destinations, even just for one day, and to spend moments of pure fun.
From the idea of creating a “class trip”, new educational projects were born that allowed the little ones of the Baby Palace Institute in Syracuse to spend moments of leisure rich in didactic insights while staying within the school walls.
On the days 13-14 – 17-18 – 24-26 May the itinerary entitled “Fonte Ciane and the Museum of Rural Civilization took place: an educational – naturalistic – ethnographic tour among papyri and legends” created with the aim of promoting and enhancing the Natural Reserve of the Ciane River and, in particular, to introduce a new reality for the city of Syracuse: the Museum of Peasant Civilization, an interesting private collection kept inside the Papyrus Farmhouse.
The contents of the virtual guided tour were handled by Serena Intagliata and Carmelo Scandurra, respectively as tour guide and archaeologist / nature guide of the Sicily Region, and were customized according to the participating class with video projections, images and interactive games.
During the course of the itinerary, the little ones were able to interact with Angelo Mortellaro, owner of the papyrus oasis and currently considered the only papyrus paper producer in the city of Syracuse, and Stefania Anzalone, owner of the Providence artisan workshop and producer of handmade ceramics.
Thanks to the synergy of all the participants, an important goal was certainly achieved: to create a moment of cultural enrichment and socialization through the in-depth study of issues dealt with in school programs and practical activities aimed at getting to know more and more their own territory.
