A special guest: the Emir of Qatar in Syracuse

During a warm August morning, a mysterious yacht moors at the Grand Port of Syracuse.
Great wonder … who is on board such a luxurious yacht? certainly a special guest.
From a driver I can find out that the Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, arrived with his large family in our wonderful city. Among considerable security measures, the Emir’s staff takes care to organize a pleasant stop for the illustrious guest: a visit to the Cathedral of Syracuse and a tour of the historical and architectural beauties of our island.
Suddenly I get a call from the organizers. The emir requested a tour guide. With great emotion I go quickly to the Porto Grande where, with great hospitality I can visit inside the luxurious yacht.
Delicious dishes typical of Arab cuisine were offered to me as well as delicious drinks and traditional desserts. After a long wait for several hours, the Emir can finally begin his guided tour.
With a private vehicle we reach Fonte Aretusa where, always supervised by the members of the security, we carry out a walking tour through the craft shops of Via Capodieci. Walking through the alleys of Ortigia, we head towards Piazza del Duomo where the Emir decides, in the company of his family, to taste the traditional lemon granita at one of the most renowned cafés on the island.
An opportunity to chat with friends and to appreciate the great humanity of the Emir.
An experience that certainly left an indelible mark, a magnificent opportunity, a meeting that I will not forget …
